Summer Outings July 25-29

July 25- Deanna Rose Farmstead day! Whew, it was another hot July day in Kansas, but we made sure we got out in the morning. It was just Will and I, so we took our time and I let him run/walk on his own as much as I trusted him (and the other kids around). We practiced all the animal sounds and he even petted a few animals.

Note: amazing shirt found by Bret at the Lawrence Sidewalk Sale--

last time we were here, that baby goat was only days old!

sweaty picnic lunch and passed out on the drive home
look at those stretched teepy toes!

July 26- Today was new shoe day! Bret found these high-top basketball shoes for Will and he just loves them. It took him a little bit to get in the hang of walking/running in them (he can't bend his ankles the same way). William took a few spills, but learned quickly. We went out to breakfast as a family where William took it upon himself to be the morning's entertainment for everyone at the restaurant. It's a good thing he's cute! Onto Lowe's, where William needed to test out all of the ''tractors" they have in front of their store. He seriously could have stayed there all day just sitting on each one and playing with the controls! Last stop was Academy Sports, William decided he just must have a pool noodle and proudly carried it around for the remainder of the day.

July 27- Summer is (too) quickly slipping away from us and there are a couple of things I still wanted to do! One of those things is visit Kaleidoscope. It's free and not too far from home (in KCMO) so we took the trek. The art activities are probably best for kids older than William (Megan --> Mila would LOVE it!!), but he liked running around and touching everything and going in and out of their little art structures.

Since we were downtown, we were going to go over to Crown Center and see the Thomas the Train exhibit. Just our luck, it was closed today so we couldn't go. We ended up driving back through Shawnee and checking in on Grandma Susie at work and showing off William's cuteness to all her coworkers. Then, because we couldn't see Thomas, we decided we'd go to Fritz's to get our train fix. Pop Pop met us for lunch! Will loved watching the trains go 'round and 'round at the restaurant. He waved bye to them and blew kisses when they passed by :)

July 28- Bret worked overtime last night, so it was just William and me this morning. We played at home for a while, got a haircut with his daycare lady, then headed up to my school to play on the playground then go in for lunch.

We ended our Friday with Olathe's Fourth Fridays! We enjoyed some yummy food from food trucks, jammed to some early 90s rock, and William got a sticker badge from the Olathe PD. All in all, a good evening!

mama's dessert!
July 29- William and I made use of this Saturday morning by taking a nice long walk. It's been up in the upper 90s the last couple of weeks so today being only mid-70s, we relished in it! Then it was off to the library for us. I picked out books to read before naptime and bedtime for the week while he played. This was probably the best behaved he has been ever when we have visited the library. He listened to me when I told him to stay in the kids' area and didn't try to escape me when I rounded him up before we left.
