Date Night - Dinner Theater

We headed out to the New Theater Restaurant in KC to see The Buddy Holly Story. It was a wonderful show and the music was amazing. The band/singers were so wonderful and we really got the feeling of Buddy Holly's music. They had such talent!

For dessert, we had a chocolate cobbler with vanilla ice cream on top. We split the dessert and it was gone pretty quick!

Here's us after the show. The nighttime & iPhone flash doesn't make for the most flattering photo.

Visit to Grandma's

This past weekend, the husband and I visited my grandma in north, central Missouri. She lives in the small town of Marceline. It's claim to fame is that it is the childhood home of Walt Disney! The Main Street in Disneyland is modeled after Main Street in Marceline.

We had a yummy lunch at the Tastee Treat. We ate Maid-Rites, which are basically ground beef burgers. Instead of patties, the meat is loose. I love them so much and I look forward to having them whenever I visit!

My husband and I were at my grandma's house to help her look through her things. She cannot get around as easy as she used to, so we brought some cedar chests downstairs to look through together. We found my grandfather's military bag from when he was stationed in Japan & the Philippines in the 1940s. It is amazing!

My husband and I ended the day with Dusty Millers. It is a ice cream sundae with marshmallow fluff and malt powder. It was a FANTASTIC way to end the day!

Relay For Life

Tonight is my town's Relay For Life event! I am a team captain for the school I work in. We were specifically touched by cancer this year when a para at our school was diagnosed with breast cancer in May. We are dedicating our team's walk this year to her. I am excited about tonight and am looking forward to seeing many of my fellow teachers and others in the community.

Sporting KC

Tonight, the hubby and I went to the Sporting KC match at Sporting Park. We got there a bit late, I forgot the tickets at home and we had to go back for them. Sporting scored first, but it was closely followed by Whitewater. It was a tense game, ending in a 1-1 tie. We had a great time!

Goals Update: July

My husband and I took time to make goals for ourselves for 2013. We tried to be specific and will hold ourselves to these goals. After three months, we have begun 11 out of the 13 goals, with 5 fully accomplished!

  1. Plan a vacation for just the two of us. Save to pay for it up front! - no plans made yet, but savings are building
  2. Pay off 100% of student loans!
  3. Save and buy a "new" vehicle - $3,784.50 saved as of June 30, 2013
  4. Save 100% of emergency fund!
  5. Get basement and garage ORGANIZED!
  6. Floor the attic (more storage) - still haven't thought about this at all, too far down on the list to do anything -- thinking this might not be accomplished this year...
  7. Bret to purchase the firearm of his choice
  8. Organize a Legacy Drawer  - About 90% completed! Still need to write legacy letters & think of funeral plan
  9. Make wills for each of us
  10. Build a 72-Hour emergency kit (here and here) --> haven't even started this, slackers! I'd like to start this before school starts in August
  11. Be intentional about finding opportunities to give to others --> I have tried to find opportunities for random acts of kindness
  12. Plan our meals by the week - so far, so good! We do this on Sunday night for the following week
  13. Keep communication open and loving between us --> We have been trying to pray together at least once a day
