Date Night at the KC Symphony

Last week, my mom got the husband and I tickets to the KC Symphony and even told us to get dinner on her and my dad! We were so excited to have a date night out. Because of our saving budget and trying to not splurge on anything, we don't have many dinners out and especially not full on date nights out!

So there were were, headed to downtown KC for our dinner and a show. We ate at a fantastic Mexican restaurant Los Tules on Broadway before walking over to the new symphony building. It is an architectural dream! And possibly even more gorgeous inside. Our seats were right up front, seventh row! We listened to Bach and Brahms that evening. It was simply wonderful!

Birthday from Afar

Back in April, I wrote about my sister's upcoming 30th birthday and my plan to send her 30 days worth of presents for for 30th birthday. She loved her presents/envelopes and it was special for me to get to be there even though she's in California and I'm in Kansas.

Here are some of the things I sent her in the birthday care package:
  • new earrings
  • coloring pages and crayons
  • Starbucks card (gotta make it through Mondays)
  • orange tic tacs (something we always get for Christmas in stockings)
  • jazzy socks
  • Cinco de Mayo celebration - new undies
  • Happy Birthday streamer to hang up in her house
  • mini lotions
  • new mascara
  • recipes to try
  • new pens (she is a office supply junkie)
  • random candy
  • stories about growing up together
  • colorful bobby pins
  • inspirational quotes about growing older/wiser
I looked up many obscure holidays to find ideas for what to send my sister. Most of the ideas I found in my online searches were for a boyfriend/girlfriend or husband/wife. So many of the ideas were romantic and obviously that wouldn't work for me! I wrote down all the dates and planned out a present/envelope for each day. Then I packaged them all up and sent them to California.

Baseball Weekend

Saturday and Sunday were baseball filled!

Saturday was filled with the Kansas City Royals. It was a 1pm game which is different, but they changed the game time because of the holiday weekend. The Royals are in a bit of a slump right now. We were hoping to bring them some good luck, but we were not enough. They ended up losing 0-7 to the Angels. Booo! Let's go Royals! Turn it around!!

Sunday evening, we went to the Kansas City T-Bones game. They are a part of the Northern League and not affiliated with the MLB at all. They are a small time baseball league that is very much fan-oriented. There are fan games each half inning and there are no bad seats in the stadium. Plus, it's right near the Legends Outlets Shopping Mall, so I convinced my husband we needed to go there first. Of course, that meant a trip to Cabela's to check out anything new for him ;)

Royals

Today I went to my first KC Royals game of the season! It was the last of the Yankee series. Unfortunately, the Royals lost today and were swept by those darn Yankees. I can't wait to watch more baseball games this summer. Only 10 days of school left!!

Goals Update: May

My husband and I took time to make goals for ourselves for 2013. We tried to be specific and will hold ourselves to these goals. After three months, we have begun 11 out of the 13 goals, with 4 fully accomplished!
  1. Plan a vacation for just the two of us. Save to pay for it up front! - no plans made yet, savings are building
  2. Pay off 100% of student loans!
  3. Save and buy a "new" vehicle - $3,284.50 saved as of May 1, 2013
  4. Save 100% of emergency fund - 96.3% as of May 1, 2013--> put together two saving accounts to get to our goal faster
  5. Get basement and garage ORGANIZED! - May garage sale was successful and none of our stuff came back into our house (yay!)
  6. Floor the attic (more storage) - still haven't thought about this at all, too cold to get up there and do anything
  7. Bret to purchase the firearm of his choice
  8. Organize a Legacy Drawer  - About 90% completed! Need to write legacy letters & think of funeral plans --> sad to think about, probably why we are putting it off!
  9. Make wills for each of us
  10. Build a 72-Hour emergency kit (here and here) --> haven't even started this, slackers!
  11. Be intentional about finding opportunities to give to others --> I have tried to find opportunities for random acts of kindness
  12. Plan our meals by the week - so far, so good! We do this on Sunday night for the following week
  13. Keep communication open and loving between us --> We have been trying to pray together at least once a day
